In the British Ministry of Defense’s intelligence assessment of the developments in the Ukrainian war, it was stated that the Russian Ground Forces lost approximately 2,600 tanks and 4,900 other armored combat vehicles in Ukraine in the period from February 24, 2022 to January 25.
“The Russian Ground Forces lost about 40 percent fewer vehicles in 2023 compared to 2022,” the Ministry’s X account said in a statement today, as quoted by DPA.

“It is highly likely that the reduction in armored vehicle attrition rates is due to the increasingly positional nature of the war in 2023 and the fact that Russia spends a significant part of the year in a defensive position,” the statement said.
Russia has been on the offensive in eastern Ukraine since the beginning of October 2023.
According to the statement, Russian losses of armored vehicles increased during this period, and the army probably lost as many as 365 tanks and 700 armored combat vehicles, but made only small territorial gains.
The UK Ministry of Defense has been publishing a daily intelligence update on the war since February 24, 2022, when Russia began its invasion of Ukraine.
