NASA astronaut Leland Melvin explained that he once saw something very strange ‘floating out of the cargo bay’ and had to call their headquarters on Earth to ask what it could be.
Leland Melvin, a NASA engineer and former astronaut, is best known for two flights aboard the space shuttle Atlantis.
Both times he visited the International Space Station to deliver equipment, Melvin spent a total of 565 hours in space. However, years after he went into space, he was asked about his views on alien life in the solar system and UFOs.
On the social media platform X, an account called UFO News asked the astronaut what he thought about whether humanity was ‘alone’ in the solar system and whether he had ‘witnessed a UFO’. Already NASA management has admitted that the space agency is constantly searching for extraterrestrials.
‘I saw something alien-like floating out’
Melvin’s view on this was that he had not seen an alien, but that he once ‘thought I saw something organic/alien-like floating out of the cargo bay’.
He explained that he ‘called Earth to ask what it could be’ and was told that what he saw was not an extraterrestrial life form, but ‘ice breaking off Freon hoses’.
Describing what he saw as “translucent, curved, organic-looking”, the astronaut added the alien emoji to his answer and said:
“Who knows, maybe he was an alien who cleverly disguised himself as a piece of ice.”
In response to another question, Melvin said that he would have uttered the immortal words “Houston, we have a problem,” but he knew what kind of reaction that would provoke on the ground. Such words are characterized by being uttered when astronauts have another Apollo 13 incident on their hands, rather than a suspicious piece floating in the cargo bay.
Did NASA lie?
When the account dedicated to the same UFO asked the astronaut if he thought NASA lied about what was floating to hide the presence of aliens, the astronaut said, “I don’t think so, but you never know.”
