A remarkable statement by a former Pentagon advisor: Is it possible to build an army to conquer Russia?

Former US Department of Defense (Pentagon) Advisor Douglas Macgregor has slammed the West’s plans for a victory over Russia.

In a post on his social media account, Macgregor criticized the West’s plans to build an army to defeat Russia on the ground.

Macgregor, a former Pentagon advisor, underlined that new armies cannot be created while conflicts are already ongoing, and that it is impossible to create a force capable of conquering Russia overnight.

Noting that he found this idea ‘absurd’, Macgregor said, “This has never had a chance of success and they (Westerners) will never accept it.”

At the end of his message, Macgregor also made an appeal to Western politicians, saying “Make peace, you fools!”
Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani has said that the European Union (EU) should create its own armed forces that could play a role in peacekeeping and conflict prevention.

In a world with powerful players such as the US, China, India and Russia, where crises stretch from the Middle East to the Indo-Pacific, Italian, German, French or Slovenian citizens can only be protected by the existing European Union, the Italian Foreign Minister argued: “Therefore, defense and a common army must become a concrete reality. And this can no longer be postponed.”

Earlier, Lieutenant General Alexander Sollfrank, Commander of NATO’s Joint Support Enabling Command, said he wanted to create a ‘military Schengen’ zone within NATO, similar to the EU’s Schengen policy, to ensure the free movement of military personnel and equipment from member states of the Alliance because of the risk of conflict with Russia.

Commenting on Sollfrank’s proposal, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that NATO’s plans to establish a ‘military Schengen’ zone were aimed at increasing confrontation with Russia and that this was a sign that Europe was not taking into account Russia’s reservations and disregarded the principle of indivisible security.
