Behind the scenes in Davos: escort ladies, caviar and desserts topped with gold leaf

So-called escort ladies are working at full capacity at the start of the 54th World Economic Forum, or at least fully booked. Once again, this side of the annual meeting of the elite and their offspring in Switzerland's Alpine paradise is also on show.

As the curtain rose on the 54th World Economic Forum in Davos, the other background to the awe-inspiring spectacle unfolded. There are again reports about the extravagant costs of some of the participants – from the proud sum of over one million euros for a week’s accommodation to the breathtaking luxury of wanting to afford an ordinary hot dog for 43 US dollars. Surprisingly, even the local church has succumbed to worldly temptations, at least for this week, and has rented out its premises to a cryptocurrency trading company to ride the Davos wave.

But beyond the glitz and glamor, there is another side to the story. Davos is not just a stage for the gathering of more than 2,500 leaders from business or governments, international organizations, civil society, academia, media and the arts. Research also regularly brings to light the penumbra in which at least one hundred sex workers discreetly meander through the Davos scene this year. In the idyllic Alpine landscape of eastern Switzerland, the tranquil little town of Davos is in a state of emergency these days, hosting this concentrated gathering of global power and its discreet underbelly.

The 54th World Economic Forum began yesterday in Davos, heralding not only a busy time for residents, police and the military, but also a boost in employment and sales for erotic escort services. Numerous escort services have strategically placed their ladies in Davos in view of the gathering of the world’s elite in this small Alpine town.

While the daylight, or spotlight, illuminates the debates and discussions between political figures, business tycoons and thought leaders in Davos, more hustle and bustle unfolds at night. As expected, the demand for sex workers is booming during the five-day summit.

For some participants, Davos obviously has to offer more than just a forum for global problem-solving. Davos is increasingly turning into an exclusive playground anyway, where discreet business deals are also concluded over sumptuous dinners with caviar and desserts topped with gold leaf, served during private gatherings and soundtracked by renowned DJs – all under this year’s very contemporary-sounding motto “Rebuilding Trust”.

All local service providers are fully booked during Davos Week

But that’s by no means all. A lady from the escort services sector reported: “For these men, meeting me is like a visit to the hairdresser. They want to fool around, laugh, engage in small talk, exchange ideas and relax. That’s where I come in, and that’s the reason why I’m fully booked.”

The cheapest pass that grants access to WEF events costs over 25,000 euros, and purchasing one is a mandatory requirement even for people who just want to “accompany” the forum. The lady from the escort service casually remarked: “You have the necessary change.” In general, the focus is less on purely physical closeness and more on the so-called “girlfriend experience”, i.e. at least the simulation of a real intimate relationship. “Depending on the customer, a booking appointment can last between four and twelve hours,” another lady told us. For twelve hours, the cost is around 2,300 euros, with around 250 euros to be paid in advance and the rest to be paid on the spot. Whether the lady stays overnight in Davos or travels home straight after the meeting depends on the client’s preferences and whether she wants to spend more time in the mountains.

While the WEF seriously claims to want to restore trust in the midst of global chaos by flying to Davos by private jet to “save the climate” or to loudly campaign for “inclusion” or “women’s rights” or all of the above, the nights in the snowy valley obviously also have an interesting appeal. And lo and behold, the accompanying ladies generously warm the beds and lend a touch of irony to the lofty ambitions of the elites. This paradox is like a dazzling firework display, illuminating the absurdity of what the world faces as it tries to find solutions from those who also, or even prefer, to engage in discreet flirtations. The duality of elitist promises and behind-the-scenes escapades becomes a bizarre painting that makes a caricature of the complex challenges that the World Economic Forum wants to characterize with this year’s motto “Rebuilding Trust”.
