The US Department of Labor announced consumer inflation data for December.
Accordingly, the cost of living of American consumers increased by 0.3 percent in December compared to the previous month. Market expectations were for CPI to increase by 0.2 percent in this period.
CPI in the country rose by 3.4 percent on an annual basis in December. Thus, the annual CPI was realized above the market expectation of 3.2 percent.

On the other hand, inflation in the US was 0.1 percent monthly and 3.1 percent annually in November.
Shelter prices continued to rise in December. The housing index rose by 0.5 percent on a monthly basis and 6.2 percent on an annual basis in December.
In the same period, the energy index increased by 0.4 percent on a monthly basis, but decreased by 2 percent on an annual basis.
The food index increased by 0.2 percent on a monthly basis and 2.7 percent on an annual basis in this period.
The core CPI in the country, which does not include volatile energy and food prices, increased by 0.3 percent month-on-month and 3.9 percent year-on-year in December.
Core inflation was realized in line with market expectations on a monthly basis and 0.1 points above market expectations on an annual basis.
