Following the meetings of the government’s emergency committee (COBRA) and the National Security Council in the UK in the morning, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak called an emergency cabinet meeting at 19.45 local time. The meeting is thought to be related to the military attacks planned by the UK and the US against the Houthis in Yemen.

In a statement released yesterday by the US Central Command (CENTCOM), it was stated that the US and the UK shot down and neutralized 21 Houthi drones and missiles targeting international shipping routes in the southern Red Sea on January 9.
British Defense Minister Grant Shapps described the attack on January 9 as the largest attack ever carried out by the Houthis in the region.
In December last year, a US-led multinational coalition was established in the Red Sea against the increasing Houthi attacks.
