US retail giant Amazon will reportedly lay off hundreds of employees in its Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios units.

According to the information obtained from Amazon, Mike Hopkins, Senior Vice President of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, sent a memo to his employees and talked about the steps taken in line with the company’s long-term vision.

However, Hopkins pointed out that the sector continues to develop rapidly and emphasized the importance of prioritizing investments for long-term success.



Hopkins stated that while increasing investments, they also identified opportunities to reduce or stop investments in certain areas, and as a result of these decisions, hundreds of employees in Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios organization will be laid off.

Underlining that this was a difficult decision to make, Hopkins said they would start reaching out to those affected by the layoffs today.

Hopkins informed that they will provide packages that include various special supports for those who are laid off.

Twitch is laying off more than 500 staff

Daniel Clancy, CEO of Amazon-owned Twitch, also published a blog post titled “a difficult update on our workforce”.

Stating that they made the difficult decision to reduce the size of Twitch’s workforce, Clancy shared the email he sent to the company.

Clancy noted that they have taken steps to reduce the number of employees at Twitch by just over 500, and that they are sizing their organization based on the current scale of the business and conservative estimates of how they expect to grow in the future.
