This year’s historic Hollywood strikes are over, but their impact is still being felt at Marvel.

Since the debut of Iron Man in 2008, fans of comic book movies have gotten used to the superhero studio releasing multiple new movies every year.

For example, three Marvel movies were released in 2018, followed by three more in 2019.

No Marvel movies were released in 2020 as a result of the worldwide closure of cinemas due to the Covid pandemic. On the other hand, 4 movies were released later in 2021: Black Widow, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Eternals and Spider-Man: No Way Home.

In 2022 and 2023, three Marvel movies were released each. On the other hand, the usually tight release schedule seems empty after the strikes.

Marvel’s only movie coming out in 2024 is Deadpool 3, starring Ryan Reynolds and scheduled to hit theaters on July 26.

Two more movies were originally slated for next year, but they were later postponed. Captain America: Brave New World, in which Anthony Mackie will take up Cap’s famous shield, has been postponed to February 2025. On the other hand, Thunderbolts, in which anti-heroes team up, has been moved to July 2025.

While Deadpool 3 is the only chance to see Marvel heroes on the big screen next year, the studio is expected to launch several new series on its streaming platform Disney+.

Among them is Echo, a new series based on the character first introduced in 2021’s Hawkeye, brought to life by Alaqua Cox. This production will premiere on January 9th.

Agatha: Darkhold Diaries is also expected to arrive on the streaming platform before the end of the year. In the series, Kathryn Hahn will reprise her role as the witch from the hit series WandaVision.

Marvel also announced a number of animated series, including the Black Panther-inspired Eyes of Wakanda, a sequel to the X-Men known as X-Men ’97, and the teen Spider-Man series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.

Apart from the impact of the strikes, Marvel is also dealing with the recent assault conviction of Jonathan Majors, star of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The studio’s upcoming 5th Avengers movie has been renamed for this reason.

While Marvel’s production seems to be slowing down, The Independent’s culture writer Ed Power wrote that smartasses who are looking forward to the day when the Marvel Cinematic Universe collapses should be careful what they wish for:

Compared to Hollywood’s new generation of blockbusters, Thor might as well be Taxi Driver.
