The Turkcell Super Cup match scheduled to be played in Saudi Arabia’s capital Riyadh has been canceled. Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe decided not to play because they were not allowed to wear Atatürk t-shirts and unfurl banners.

After the match was canceled, TFF, Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray issued a joint statement. In the statement, it was announced that the Super Cup match was postponed to a later date.

“The 2023 Super Cup, which was planned to be played on Friday, December 29, 2023 at 20:45, in order to celebrate the 100th anniversary of our Republic and the Turkish Football Federation abroad, which we organized with our clubs to contribute to the brand value of Turkish Football and our clubs, has been postponed to a later date as a result of the joint decision we have taken with our Clubs due to some problems in the organization. We would like to thank the Football Federation, relevant institutions and organizations of the host country for their efforts for the organization of the Super Cup so far.”
