Matt Damon played Jason Bourne, a former CIA assassin turned fugitive, in The Bourne Identity, released in 2002

The actor appeared in three more films in the series: The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum and Jason Bourne.

Will he return to the iconic role?

After the last movie in 2016, it looked like Damon was done with the role. However, the American actor announced that he would return to the franchise on one condition.

The news that Universal Studios is developing Jason Bourne 6 comes 7 years after the release of the 5th movie.

It was also announced that Oscar-nominated filmmaker Edward Berger would direct the project. However, apart from Berger’s involvement, not much else is known about the movie.

It is still in the early stages of development, and it is not yet confirmed that the 53-year-old Damon will star in the film.

There is only one rule

The action franchise doesn’t even have a script for now. But if Damon returns to the role of Bourne, it would mean that the actor has broken the only rule he has set to keep the franchise going.

Matt Damon had previously set one condition for his reprisal as Jason Bourne: That Paul Greengrass direct the movie.

Damon definitely wants Greengrass, with whom he has worked in harmony on three Bourne films, to be involved in the project. However, since Berger will direct the 6th Bourne movie, Damon will have to give up his previous condition for his involvement in the project.

Some reports claim that Damon will be offered to take part in the 6th movie, but these talks have not yet taken place because the script has not been finalized.

Only time will tell if the star will break his rule to continue the Bourne story.
