It withdrew the draft law on “Foreign Agencies”.

The withdrawal of the bill was formalized today with a vote in the Georgian parliament.

Opponents likened the bill to a 2012 Russian law restricting press freedom.

Opponents argued that the law would distance the country from European Union membership.

The Georgian delegation to the European Union welcomed the decision to withdraw the bill.
