As Microsoft announced that it will lay off 10,000 employees by the end of the third quarter, CEO Nadella said he is confident that the company will emerge stronger and more competitive

Microsoft, one of the US technology companies, announced that it will lay off 10 thousand employees by the end of the third quarter of the year.

Microsoft Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Satya Nadella, in a letter shared with the company’s employees, stated that they are going through a period of significant changes and that they are in talks with customers and business partners.

Stating that customers are optimizing their digital spending, Nadella said, “We also see that organizations in every industry and geography are cautious as some parts of the world are in recession and other regions are expecting recession.”

Nadella noted that the company is confident that it will emerge from this situation stronger and more competitive, but that steps should be taken in line with these developments.

Stating that they will align Microsoft’s costs with its revenue and customer demand, Nadella stated that 10 thousand people will be laid off until the end of the third quarter of the fiscal year 2023.

Nadella reminded that this number corresponds to less than 5 percent of Microsoft’s total number of employees and emphasized that while eliminating positions in some areas, they will continue to recruit in important strategic areas.

Microsoft’s statement on layoffs came after the news in the press yesterday.

In a report in the British Sky News yesterday, it was stated that Microsoft plans to lay off about 5 percent of its employees. Bloomberg also announced that the company plans to lay off some engineering units on January 18.
