112 tons of granite were stolen by unknown persons in Zittau: the building fabric of an entire street. Now there was a police operation in Erfurt – and the spectacular case is nearing resolution.
Investigators in Thuringia have scored a success in the case of a completely stolen road in Zittau in eastern Saxony: A suspect who has been suspected for some time has now been arrested in Erfurt. This was reported unanimously by the “Sächsische Zeitung” and MDR with reference to the federal police.
The 55-year-old, against whom a warrant for his arrest had been issued by the local court in Görlitz, is alleged to have literally paved over an entire street with accomplices at the Zittau freight station about a year ago. The loot, a total of 112 tons of granite pavers, was apparently sold over the Internet. According to the police, the stones, worth around 45,000 euros, were removed with the help of a small excavator and at least one truck.
Investigators secured according to own data on the homestead of the crime suspect now extensive evidence. On the trace of the man the officials had come by witness references, after he had been looked for in public search.
The police investigates because of particularly heavy theft, fraud and damage to property.
