Netflix finally releases its long-awaited ad-supported package, Basic with Ads

3 mins read

The long-awaited ad-supported Netflix plan is now available, and wow, are there ever a lot of adverts.

The firm announced today that Basic with Ads, its new ad-supported tier, will shortly go live and would reduce the cost of the streaming service to just $6.99 per month (opens in new tab) (in the United States). Although that pricing sounds fantastic, falling from the $19.99 4K plan so far costs you a lot.

The new Basic with Ads plan will be accessible in Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States, according to the business. At 9:00 AM Pacific Time on November 3rd, it will formally debut.

Netflix also confirmed that the introduction of the new plan will not affect the existence of the ad-free Basic, Standard, and Premium plans.

What are the benefits of Basic with Ads?

The majority of the Netflix catalog will still be available to members of the new Basic with Ads tier (more on that in a moment), but there are some significant trade-offs you must make if you choose that plan.

One is that the Basic with Ads package will naturally include advertisements. There will also be a lot of them, according to Netflix. According to the company’s news release, the new ad-supported tier would “average” four to five spots every hour. At that moment, network television might as well be on.

The other frustrating aspect of Netflix’s Basic with Ads plan is that it restricts your streaming.

The Basic with Ads plan’s other frustrating feature is Netflix’s restriction of your streaming quality to a paltry 720p. Not 4K. even 1080p. 720p. In 2022. That is horrible.

Additionally, the firm has stated that subscribers to this tier will not get access to the whole Netflix catalog “due to licensing restrictions.” Although it claims to be resolving the issue, it did not specify what information would be absent or how long it would take.

You may still download movies and TV series to your iPhone and iPad with the Basic with Ads plan, but don’t expect to fill your tablet with movies for your flight if you have this plan.

After looking into the details, the only good thing about this plan is the price. You’re sacrificing damn near everything to get Netflix this cheap.
