French President Macron said the ‘era of plenty’ is over and described the period his country is facing as the ‘age of sacrifice’.
French President Emmanuel Macron argued that the “era of plenty is over” and called on the government to unite against it, claiming that the country is facing an “age of sacrifice”.
Speaking at the start of the first cabinet meeting after the country’s traditional August recess, Macron argued that this period, marked by climate change and “the instability created by Russia’s aggression in Ukraine”, meant “the end of the era of plenty”.
Macron argued that the new era facing France was an era of “sacrifices”. The French President’s speech was interpreted as a speech of “preparation for the harsh winter” at a time when a sharp increase in energy prices is expected and people are struggling with inflation.
“This overview, which I present as the end of abundance, the end of recklessness and the end of arrogance, is a tipping point that we are passing through, which may ultimately cause our citizens a lot of anxiety,” Macron said.
“In the face of this, we have a duty, first of all, to speak clearly and openly without sounding apocalyptic,” Macron said.
