TRUMP: UNANNOUNCED RAID
The former US president described the incident at his resort in Palm Beach, Florida, as an ‘unannounced raid’, but did not specify what was searched or taken from his home.
Trump claimed that FBI agents raided his Mar-a-Lago property on Monday evening and broke into his safe, adding that his property is “currently under siege, under raid and occupation”.
The FBI has obtained a search warrant apparently related to an investigation into Trump’s illegal transportation of classified White House documents to Mar-a-Lago after his presidency, according to allegations circulating in the US media.

The New York Times, citing two unnamed sources familiar with the investigation, suggested that the search was related to boxes of classified documents Trump brought from the White House to his Florida estate.

A source close to the matter said in April that the US justice department had launched an early-stage investigation into Trump’s removal of records from his Florida property.
The investigation comes after the US National Archives and Records Administration notified Congress in February that it had recovered about 15 boxes of White House documents from Trump’s Florida home, some containing classified material.
Trump initially delayed for months returning the 15 boxes of materials requested by the authorities, doing so only when he threatened to take action to get them back.

WHAT HAPPENED?
It is speculated that the FBI showed a judge a possible new violation of federal law related to Trump’s receipt of White House documents and that is how it obtained the warrant.
The FBI obtained a warrant to search Mar-a-Lago because, according to a source familiar with the matter, they were able to demonstrate to a federal magistrate court judge in West Palm Beach probable cause that Trump was illegally retaining official White House records. The address of the documents forbidden to be removed from the White House was Trump’s Florida residence
In this case, the probable cause was that the records were kept at Mar-a-Lago. According to senior former FBI officials who spoke to the Guardian on condition of anonymity, the presence of government records at the facility is potentially criminal.
The 15 boxes, returned to the National Archives earlier this year, reportedly contain presidential records, including ‘love letters’ from Kim Jong-un, memorabilia, gifts and other letters and correspondence from world leaders.
The Washington Post reported at the time that the former president’s advisers denied any malicious intent and that the boxes contained memorabilia, gifts, letters from world leaders and other correspondence.
The items included correspondence with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, which Trump once described as “love letters,” as well as a letter left by his successor Barack Obama, the Post reported.
