German police shoot dead 16-year-old with knife in hand

Police in Dortmund, Germany, reportedly shot and killed a young man with a knife in his hand.

In a statement released by Dortmund police, it was reported that police were called to Holsteiner Street, where a 16-year-old youth attacked the police with a knife.

The statement said that the young man was seriously wounded as a result of the use of weapons by the police officers and that the young man died in the hospital where he was hospitalized.

In the statement, it was noted that the investigation into the incident will be carried out by the Recklinghausen Police Department.

Dortmund Chief Prosecutor Carsten Dombert told German media that a person saw the teenager with a knife in a church area and informed the police.

Dombert said it was not yet known exactly how many shots the police fired and that the weapons had been confiscated.

Bild newspaper reported that the young man was from Senegal.
