For the fourth consecutive month, food prices worldwide declined. In July, the price of food decreased by 8.6% to 141 points.
The global food price index fell sharply in July. The index has been falling for 4 consecutive months.
According to data released by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the food price index fell 13.3 points, or 8.6 percent, to 140.9 points last month.
However, the index remained 16.4 points or 13.1 percent higher than the same month last year.
The index for cereal prices fell 11.5 percent to 147.3 points, while the index for oil prices dropped 19.2 percent to 171.1 points.
There were also declines in the milk, meat and sugar indices. Milk prices fell by 2.5 percent, while meat prices fell by 0.5 percent. Sugar prices were down 3.8 percent.
