Prior to daybreak, Pelosi and her congressional delegation arrived. According to a spokeswoman for Singapore’s foreign ministry, she will meet with numerous Cabinet Ministers and pay visits to President Halimah Yacob and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

Our delegation will hold high-level meetings in Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, and Japan to talk about how we can further advance our shared interests and values, such as peace and security, trade and economic growth, the COVID-19 pandemic, the climate crisis, human rights, and democratic governance, she said in the release.
Taiwan isn’t in her schedule at all. Following President Joe Biden’s statement that a trip to Taiwan is “not a smart idea,” she is currently on an Asia tour.
China’s President Xi Jinping advised Vice President Biden this week not to “play with fire” in regards to China’s relationship with Taiwan, as Beijing sees Taiwan as a part of its own territory.
“Those who play with fire will perish by it. It is hoped that the U.S. will be clear-eyed about this,” a Chinese readout of the call said.
According to Chinese officials, Pelosi’s journey to Taiwan would be against the One China Policy and would amount to supporting an unlawful uprising. If the Speaker does travel, one state media figure in China even advocated shooting down her plane.
Although it has deepened interactions with the island and made attempts to deter China from invading, the United States does not have formal relations with Taiwan. Since then-Speaker Newt Gingrich in 1997, Pelosi would be the highest-ranking elected figure from the United States to travel to the island.
To test the area’s air defense zone, the Chinese military has often dispatched aircraft into Taiwan’s airspace. Additionally, China conducted live-fire military drills in the Taiwan Strait on Saturday.
