Lidia Thorpe, a local senator in Australia, made headlines when she called Queen Elizabeth II a colonizer during her oath of allegiance.
Thorpe referred to Queen Elizabeth II as a “colonizer” during the recitation of the oath of allegiance.
Following this, other senators said that Thorpe could not be a senator if he did not recite the oath of allegiance properly.

Speaker of Parliament Sue Lines intervened, saying, “You need to read the oath as it is written on the paper.”
After the warning, Thorpe read the oath again as requested.
Last month, the Australian senator called Australia a “colonial project” and said the national flag did not represent him.
Thorpe said he was running for parliament “to question the illegitimate occupation of the colonial system in the country”.
