Hacker offered to sell data for 10 Bitcoins
Data belonging to more than 1 billion Chinese citizens was put up for sale on the service formerly known as RaidForums and after its closure as BreachForums. According to a user named ChinaDan, it was revealed that the database covers billions of citizens. He made the following statements in his post:
In 2022, the Shanghai National Police (SHGA) database was leaked. This database contains a lot of TB data and information about billions of Chinese citizens
In addition, according to the post, the data leak includes the names, addresses, birthplaces, phone numbers, all crime/incident details and national ID numbers of Chinese citizens. The hacker also offered to sell this data for 10 Bitcoins.
Following these leaks, Chinese social media was devastated. Users reacted on Weibo and WeChat, China’s largest social media platforms. In addition, Binance’s Chinese CEO Zhao Changpeng made a statement on Twitter.
Following the allegations, the CEO said that the instant verification process for logging into the platform is under development. He also stated that this leak could be caused by an error in the ‘Elastic Search’ software distribution by the government agency.

All these events have alarmed the Chinese authorities. Last year, China passed laws on how personal information and data generated within its borders should be handled. Another alleged hack came as China promised to improve the protection of online user data privacy. Thus, it will be possible to order more secure storage.
