The FCC, the Federal Communications Commission in the US, has given Google and Apple, the app stores, a deadline to remove the increasingly popular Tiktok. It is not known how the companies will respond to the request of the FCC official, who said that the application actually serves the function of providing intelligence to China.
The trade wars that started under former US President Donald Trump continue to have an impact despite the White House changing hands. In the rapidly growing war after Pandora’s box was opened, China is gradually increasing its weight in the scales, while the US is increasing its embargoes against Chinese companies.
- US singer R. Kelly sentenced to 30 years in prison and $100,000 fine
- WhatsApp is getting the feature users have been waiting for years!
The letter sent by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to Google and Apple confirms this.
The FCC asked the companies to remove the TikTok app from their app stores. The reason given is that this application is a surveillance tool for the Chinese government.
TIME GIVEN
FCC official Brendan Carr made an open appeal to these companies in a two-page open letter.
Carr asked the companies to remove TikTok from the App Store and Google Play. The FCC gave them until July 8 to respond to this letter.
“NOT A VIDEO SHARING APP”
The letter requesting TikTok’s removal also includes some justifications. According to the FCC, TikTok is not really a video sharing application.
On the other hand, in the long-winded letter, the removal request was conveyed with the following statements:
“It is clear that TikTok poses an unacceptable national security risk due to its extensive data collection combined with Beijing’s seemingly unchecked access to this sensitive data.
I therefore ask that you apply the plain text of your app store policies to TikTok and remove it from your app stores for non-compliance with these terms.”
