As Intel’s next-generation processors start to emerge, their performance is a matter of great curiosity. Just days before the launch, Expreview put the 13th generation Intel Raptor Lake processor to the performance test.

Intel Raptor Lake faces off against its predecessor

Intel’s new 13th generation processor is capped at a maximum of 3.8 GHz. So Expreview tested the new processor against the Core i9-12900K for a fair comparison. Both processors were tested with a Z690 motherboard, 32 GB of DDR5 5200 MHz memory and a GeForce RTX 3090 Founders Edition graphics card.

The results revealed that the 13th generation Raptor Lake processor is on average 20 percent faster than the 12th generation. It is thought that the new generation processor has an important role in this performance increase with the extra 8 E-Core cores that work in an economy-centered manner.

The 13th-generation Raptor Lake ES CPU also outperformed its predecessor by up to 51.5 percent in the sensitivity test. In most of the tests, the 13th-generation processor performed between 15 and 25 percent better.

However, in some areas, such as Pov-Ray and Cinebench, the 12th-generation processor outperforms its successor. Alder Lake outperforms Raptor Lake by 10 percent or more in some areas.

The 13th-generation Raptor Lake’s limited sample size may be a disadvantage for the processor in this regard. This is evidenced by the fact that the 12th generation processor was more successful in most of the gaming tests.

But it’s still early to talk about Intel’s new processor. We know that Raptor Lake will evolve in many ways before it hits the market in October. Especially the limitation to 3.8 GHz prevents the new processor from showing its full performance.

To see the real performance of the processor, it is worth seeing the actual samples. So what do you think about Intel’s 13th generation processors? You can share your opinions with us in the comments section.
