Taliban ban women from traveling without a male escort
The Taliban movement has announced that women wishing to travel long distances will not be allowed unless they have a male relative with them.
According to the news of AFP, Sadik Akif Muhacir, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Invitation to Goodness and Prevention of Evil, said that women who want to cover a distance of more than 72 kilometers should not be taken to transportation vehicles unless they are accompanied by a male close family member.
Muhajir also stated that it will be mandatory for women who want to board the plane to wear a headscarf.
Listening to music in vehicles is also prohibited
In a statement issued by the Ministry, the ministry called on all car owners to serve only women wearing hijab, and also instructed people to stop listening to music in their cars.
The Taliban did not make it clear what it means when talking about the hijab, as its interpretation can range from the hijab to the veil or burqa.
Activists hope the Taliban will make concessions on women’s rights in order to gain international recognition and access economic aid.
The world’s leading donors state that respecting women’s rights is a condition for the return of aid to the country.
