The European Union has launched an investigation into the merger offer of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and the French PSA.

The European Union (EU) Commission reported that an official competition investigation was launched into the merger of the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) operating in the automotive industry and the French PSA groups affiliated with the Peugeot and Citroen brands.

In the statement, it was reminded that the companies in question had large brands and model portfolios in the European markets, and that these groups were in the leading position especially in commercial vehicles.

It was stated that the merger caused a decrease in competition in 14 EU member countries and in England, under 3.5 tons of trucks and light commercial vehicles, and that the transaction would be evaluated carefully.

It is the EU Commission’s mandate to oversee large-scale mergers or acquisitions operating in Europe.

The EU Commission is evaluating whether there is an anti-competitive situation in these reviews and investigations.

The commission may prevent mergers and acquisitions if situations that harm the competition are detected.

FCA and PSA groups agreed to merge in December in a 50-50 percent partnership.
