In a statement released by the Federation of Islamic Associations of Burkina Faso, it was announced that a mosque in the city of Natiaboani was attacked by unknown gunmen on February 25.
Fourteen people, including the imam, were killed in the attack.
In the east of the country, on February 25, a church in the city of Essakane was attacked during Sunday services, killing 15 people.
The security crisis in Burkina Faso in 2015 forced more than 2 million people to flee their homes. According to government data, only 120,000 of these people were able to return home.
In a speech last year, Prime Minister Apollinaire Joachimson Kyelem de Tambela said that 65 percent of the country’s territory was under state control.
