CIA Director Burns‘ visit to the Egyptian capital Cairo is expected to take place this weekend, according to a report by the US website “Axios”, citing sources familiar with the matter.
During his visit to Cairo, Burns will meet with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdurrahman Al Thani, Israeli foreign intelligence agency Mossad Director David Barnea and Egyptian Intelligence Chief Abbas Kamil, the report said.
It was stated that the negotiated prisoner swap offer could lead to a “6-week ceasefire” in Gaza, and it was estimated that a total of 40 Israeli prisoners, including female soldiers, women, men over the age of 50 and those in critical health conditions, could be released in exchange for 700 Palestinians.
In a press conference yesterday, HAMAS Political Bureau Member Osama al-Hamdan said, “Israel rejects the demands of the people and resistance forces for a complete cessation of attacks, the withdrawal of troops from Gaza, the return of the displaced, or a real prisoner swap. So far, there has been no progress in the negotiations, on the contrary, it continues to stand still despite all our efforts.”
