In a statement made by MET, it was stated that the Ferrari‘s of two Formula One drivers were stolen after the San Marino Grand Prix in Imola, Italy in April 1995, but the red Ferrari F512M luxury car owned by Berger was found 28 years later.

“In January, Ferrari carried out checks on a vehicle purchased in 2023 by a US buyer through a broker in the UK and submitted a report that revealed the vehicle was stolen,” the MET said in a statement. Officers from the Organized Vehicle Crime Unit conducted extensive investigations and uncovered the vehicle’s history, revealing that it had been shipped to Japan shortly after it was stolen and brought to the UK in late 2023.”

Then, within 4 days, the vehicle’s history was established, Gerhard Berger’s Ferrari was traced and the car was transferred to the ownership of the MET to prevent its export from the UK.

“The vehicle has been missing for 28 years”

Mike Pilbeam, the police officer leading the investigation, said in a statement, `The Ferrari, worth around £350,000, had been missing for more than 28 years. Our investigations were meticulous and we contacted authorities from around the world. We worked quickly with our partners, including the National Crime Agency (NCA) as well as Ferrari and international car dealerships. This cooperation was instrumental in understanding the history of the vehicle and preventing it from leaving the country.
