28th ADG Awards: Poor Things, Oppenheimer, and Saltburn Triumph as Top Winners

At the 28th ADG Awards held at the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Ovation Hollywood, Poor Things, Oppenheimer, and Saltburn clinched the top honors in the fantasy, period, and contemporary live-action feature categories, respectively, at the Art Directors Guild (IATSE Local 800) Awards.

Poor Things and Oppenheimer also boast nominations for the prestigious Oscar in production design, alongside fellow contenders Barbie, Killers of the Flower Moon, and Napoleon, all of which were similarly recognized by the ADG in their respective categories.

Historically, the ADG’s period film winner has crossed over to claim the production design Oscar twice in the last five years: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood in 2020 and Mank in 2021. Meanwhile, fantasy category champions have secured the production design Oscar twice during this period, with Black Panther in 2019 and Dune in 2022. Last year, although the eventual Oscar winner, All Quiet on the Western Front, competed in the period film category, Babylon emerged victorious in the ADG Awards for that genre.

Among the additional ADG Award recipients this year were Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Beef, The Last of Us, Succession, Reservation Dogs, The Great, and Taylor Swift’s “I Can See You.”

The ceremony also featured special recognitions, including the Cinematic Imagery Award presented to Mimi Leder and Lifetime Achievement Awards bestowed upon David Lowery, Greg Papalia, Wynn P. Thomas, and Francine West. Additionally, the late production designer Lawrence G. Paull was posthumously inducted into the ADG Hall of Fame.

Host Max Greenfield’s segments included a memorable appearance dressed as Ken from Barbie, dancing to “Murder on the Dance Floor” from Saltburn.
