Dark smoke from the Bombardier Challenger 600 jet that crashed in the southbound lanes of I-75 in southwest Florida rose tens of meters into the air.

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said in a statement that there were 5 passengers on board the private jet and that the cause of the crash was being investigated with local authorities.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office said there were 2 confirmed fatalities in the crash. There were no details about the identity of those on board.

While the highway patrol immediately intervened in the accident that occurred in the Naples region, it was shared that the plane was heading from Ohio to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The Air Traffic Control agency operating in the region announced that in the audio recording they have, the pilot told the Naples control tower that his plane had lost both engines and could not make it to the airport.

In the images shared on social media, it was seen that the authorities intervened from the air and on the ground at the spot where the plane wreckage continues to burn.
