NASA continues to receive new images from the planet Mercury.

The Mercury project was the NASA program that sent the first American astronauts into space.

Astronauts flew a total of six space flights during Project Mercury.

Two of these flights reached space and landed immediately.

The other four went into orbit and circled the Earth.

The first of these six flights took place in 1961 and the last in 1963.
