We all know people who are self-confident and boastful. They hold their noses in the air, they act like they know everything and no one can rise to their level. These people are known for their air of superiority. They think that they are better than everyone else, with their supporters and victims at their side.

Humility is not a characteristic of these people. They are always proud and cling to anything that will elevate them among others. But, is there actually more to it than that? Could it just be a mask hiding a deep complex?

Superiority and self-deception

Think about people who make others uncomfortable. They are not as strong as they appear to be, because in fact the reason they hurt others is to arouse fear and respect. But inside they are not as brave as they appear. They are facing serious problems that they hide from the people around them.

The same is true of people who have an air of superiority. Behind their contempt for their fellow human beings, there is a deeper problem that they are trying to cover up. This drives them to put on a mask of self-sufficiency, but this need can never be met.

Superiority A Trait of Insecure People 1

People have a great capacity to deny the problems that surround them. And sometimes, even when they see the reality with their own eyes, they still have the audacity to deny it. Sometimes it is because of fear, sometimes because of shame. The biggest problem when it comes to people with an air of superiority is actually the sense of insecurity that follows them.

Of course, self-esteem plays an important role here. In this case, you can feel superior or inferior. People with an air of superiority mask their insecurities by superiorizing and humiliating others in order to feel better about themselves.

They look down on you

One of the factors that can lead a person to act superior to others is having been bullied as a child. By the time they reach university, it is possible that they will have drastically changed the way they protect themselves against future attacks and harassment.

Therefore, from day one they have to step on others and reassure themselves so that they are not stepped on and can present themselves as someone they are not. They never admit that they have made a mistake, they blame others. At the same time, they can be arrogant and arrogant, with a positive view that they will set an example for the people surrounding them.

In order to feel superior, people have to follow them and pay attention to them, and if this doesn’t happen, they feel failure and downfall. So they become overly emotional and make jokes about their superiors, wanting to prove who is boss.

Unfortunately for them, sooner or later it will come to an end, and when it does, self-esteem will have suffered. Ignoring a problem does nothing but make it worse, and when it can no longer be fixed, it comes at you with a force that is hard to resist.

Wearing a mask is never a good option. The solution is to seek a balanced self-esteem that makes you feel good and confident about yourself. Presenting yourself as someone who hurts others will not make you feel better, at least not in the long run. You will continue to feel that terrible emptiness and insecurity inside.

So be careful when you meet someone who has a superiority problem. They are not at fault for behaving this way because of the terrible situations they have been through. If you are able to reach out and help them, do so; if not, distance yourself and let them go their own way until they work out their insecurities themselves.
