Apple's Vision Pro Mixed-Reality Headset: Set for Early 2024 Debut

Apple is set to commence mass shipments of its Vision Pro mixed-reality headset in the initial week of January, with plans to introduce it in Apple Stores either by late January or early February, according to the well-regarded supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Kuo projects that approximately 500,000 Vision Pro devices will be shipped as Apple aims to ensure a robust launch for what is considered its most significant product in recent years.

Anticipating the product’s arrival on store shelves, Kuo echoes recent statements made by reliable Apple analyst Mark Gurman, who asserted that Apple is gearing up to offer the headset for sale by February. Despite Apple’s initial announcement in June, indicating a vague “early 2024” release, speculation had mounted, suggesting a likely March 2024 release date. However, with both Kuo and Gurman aligning on the timeline, it appears increasingly probable that the Vision Pro will hit the market about a month earlier than initially anticipated.

Gurman’s report from last week, drawing on insider information, highlighted Apple’s current efforts to “ramp up production” of the Vision Pro at its Chinese facilities, positioning the company for a timely February launch. Gurman noted that production has been operating at full capacity in China for the past few weeks.

As the launch date approaches, Apple has purportedly reached out to software developers, encouraging them to prepare for the mixed-reality headset by testing their applications and submitting their software for feedback. Additionally, the tech giant is gearing up to train Apple Store staff on effective methods of presenting and demonstrating the Vision Pro to potential customers.

The success of the Vision Pro remains uncertain at this point, but a significant factor that may give potential customers pause is the substantial $3,499 price tag. Although rumors suggest that Apple is working on a more affordable version, its availability in stores might be some time away.
