Ukrainian President Zelenskiy begins talks in Germany

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin.

Zelenskiy, who visited Germany for the first time since Russia launched its war against Ukraine on February 24, 2022, was welcomed by Steinmeier at the Presidential Palace Schloss Bellevue in the capital Berlin.

After signing the special book of the German Presidency, Zelenskiy then had a head-to-head meeting with Steinmeier.

Zelensky also met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz today.

Scholz welcomed Zelenskiy with a military ceremony. Scholz and Zelenskiy will hold a joint press conference after their head-to-head and delegation meetings.

Zelenskiy is then expected to move to the city of Aachen and be honored with the International Charlemagne Prize.

Extensive security measures for Zelenskiy

Intense security measures were taken in the capital Berlin for Ukrainian President Zelensky.

Within the scope of Zelenskiy’s visit, Berlin’s airspace and the roads around the Presidential Palace Schloss Bellevue and the Prime Ministry building were closed.

Snipers were placed in some buildings in the region where security measures were taken with helicopters from the air and many police officers on the roads.

Zelensky arrived in Berlin from Rome

According to German media reports, Zelensky was picked up from Rome by an A319 aircraft of the German Air Force and arrived in Berlin at midnight. The plane carrying Zelensky was accompanied by two Eurofighter fighter jets that took off from Lechfeld airbase in Bavaria.
