According to Peking University in China, as of January 11, Covid-19 cases in the country reached 900 million.

According to the research conducted by the university, coronavirus was detected in 64 percent of the country.

In the Ganksu region, 91 percent of the population is thought to be infected.

In Yunnan, this rate was 84 percent and in Qinghai it was 80 percent.

Zeng Guang, one of China’s leading epidemiologists (epidemiologist), announced that cases are expected to peak during the Chinese New Year on January 23rd.

Guang, a former head of the Chinese Center for Disease Control, added that the number of cases is expected to remain at this level for 2-3 months.

Hundreds of millions of Chinese will go home for Chinese New Year for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic.

China ended its zero Covid policy in late 2022 and stopped publishing daily Covid statistics.

However, in big cities where health facilities are more developed and accessible, hospital occupancy rates have recently increased.

The elderly in rural areas, who have less access to health services, are likely to be worse affetsin.

2 billion trips
The Chinese New Year holiday, which begins on January 21, was leading to some of the world’s most massive holiday travel before Covid.

A total of around 2 billion trips are expected to be made in the country this year after travel was restricted during the Covid measures.

China, which had restricted foreign travel since the beginning of the pandemic by requiring quarantine upon entering the country, lifted this measure on Sunday.

However, due to the increasing number of cases in China, many countries have mandated testing for travelers from that country.

In response, China has imposed the same requirement on people coming to China from countries that require testing.

International health experts warn that nearly 1 million people could die from Covid in China this year.
