Czech Republic – Prague

4 mins read

Having started my articles on Vienna in Central Europe and continued with Budapest and Bratislava, which I love very much, I thought it would be impossible not to write something about Prague, so let’s give a passenger greeting to Prague, the pearl of the Czech Republic and even of Central Bohemia, the so-called “Left Bank of the Nineties”, whose architecture was not damaged during World War II and survived.

When I first saw it, there was something so gloomy and overwhelming about this city, as if it was telling me to discover me and get out of here as soon as possible with its unique texture coming from Gothic, Roman, Baroque, Renaissance, Modern and New Art Movement, which finds itself in the density and style examples brought by its architectural style; Maybe because I couldn’t find a spiritual unity in Prague, I always felt that even though it fascinates its visitors on the one hand, on the other hand, come, visit, take photos, maybe even make a wish with your soul mate on the Karl Bridge, put a lock on the bars and throw the key into the cold waters of the Vltava River, the most important tourism source of the city, and then leave this city hand in hand without looking back. Nevertheless, if you are going to tour Central Europe with package tour programs, Prague is a must for travelers.

Czech Republic - Prague 1

Prague is a Kafkaesque labyrinth of a city, but they are so good at tourism marketing that even though it is the city with the most security problems in Europe, it is still possible to see a lot of tourists at all seasons of the year. Therefore, if you want to take a quiet photo of the Karl Bridge, and if you want to catch the light play of the sunrise, you have to choose early morning and be willing to wake up to the painful sound of your alarm clock, regardless of the tiredness of the previous day. Otherwise, you might end up with lots of photos of tourists from all over the world, more captives of the snap-and-go style than travelers.

As a Czech girlfriend of mine named Dominik put it, the city, which is the setting of almost all action novels, is perhaps best described by the exiled German literature of World War II, Kafka or Umberto Eco’s The Prague Cemetery, originally in Italian. So Prague is a kind of literary setting, but for us it has also been an eternal setting with the title of “Golden City”, since it is known to have been founded by the Celts in 200 BC.

With an opera, theater or dance show around every corner, Prague is not a cheap city in terms of accommodation, but it is a relatively expensive city where you can buy paintings, engravings, puppets or feathered hats for reasonable prices and handicrafts. For those who will go in the fall or winter months, we can say that the cold is terrible. Apart from that, the Opera House, the Astronomical Clock or the Toy Museum in the castle trap time in the past, while the Old City has fulfilled its duty to stay in the Middle Ages without any hesitation, and completes its rough silhouette with its towers or churches.
