The platform will be sold to Ye, according to an announcement made on Monday by Parlement Technologies, the parent company of Parler, who hopes to complete the transaction by the end of the year.
Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, has agreed to purchase the social media app Parler, which caters to conservative users, the website revealed early on Monday.
A contentious substitute for social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook, Parler advertises itself as a “free expression” and “uncanceable” area. Due of its connections to the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, it was pulled offline last year.
The action comes after a week in which the rapper faced condemnation for antisemitic posts and was limited on Instagram and Twitter.
Ye has been “taking a firm position against his recent censorship from Big Tech,” according to Parlement Technologies, the parent business of Parler, who said “it has entered into a deal in principle to sell Parler.”
“In a world where conservative opinions are considered to be controversial we have to make sure we have the right to freely express ourselves,” Ye said in a statement announcing the plans.
Under the terms of the initial agreement, the parties will enter into a definite purchase agreement and expect to close on the deal in the fourth quarter of 2022, the company said in a statement.
“The terms of the proposed transaction would include ongoing technical support from Parlement and the use of private cloud services via Parlement’s private cloud and data center infrastructure,” the statement said.
Parlement Technologies CEO George Farmer said, “this deal will change the world, and change the way the world thinks about free speech.”
