Disney+ continues to rise. Finally, Walt Disney surpassed Netflix as the platform gained 14.4 million new subscribers in the last quarter.
We stayed at home for a long time due to the coronavirus that broke out in 2019. In this two-year period, video streaming platforms have become very widespread. Today, services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+ stand out in this field.
There is also fierce competition between these platforms. In fact, Disney+, which entered the Turkish market a few months ago, experienced a big leap in the number of subscribers after this move. Finally, it was revealed that Disney surpassed Netflix for the first time in the total number of subscribers.
Disney officially surpassed Netflix
According to BBC, Disney+ gained 14.4 million new subscribers in the last quarter. This paved the way for Walt Disney, which also includes Hulu and ESPN+, to reach 221 million subscribers worldwide. This means that by 2022, it has surpassed Netflix, which is home to 220.7 million users.
As mentioned above, Disney+ has a big share in this situation. Because the platform came up with an increase of 45 percent above even Wall Street estimates. The video streaming service, which is both expanding the range of countries in which it operates and introducing new productions to the audience, is one of the most preferred platforms as of 2022.
Apart from this, Disney+ has changed its subscription policy in the US. The ad-free Disney+ subscription price was increased from $7.99 to $10.99. The price of the new subscription to be offered with ads was determined as 7.99 dollars.
The ad-supported subscription will be called Disney+ Basic, while the current ad-free subscription plan will be called Disney+ Premium. Disney+ Basic price will be the same as the current subscription, while Disney+ Premium will be offered with a 3 dollar increase.
