Pope Francis, who was suggested to resign in the Italian press, spoke for the first time about these allegations. Saying that he does not plan to resign anytime soon, the Pope said, “If one day my health condition prevents me from working, I will stop working. God knows when that will happen.”

Speaking to Reuters at his private residence in the Vatican, Pope Francis spoke about the allegations that have emerged in recent days.
Denying the allegations that he has cancer, the Pope joked, “Doctors have told me no such thing.”
Pope Francis’ recent trip to the city of L’Aquila had brought up allegations that he would leave office. Because Pope Benedict XVI, who left his post for health reasons in 2013, went to the city of L’Aquila before resigning. Speaking about these allegations, the Pope said, “These are all coincidences. It never came to my mind.”
However, the Pope said that he might resign one day if his health prevents him from working. When asked when this might happen, he said, “We don’t know. God knows.”

Commenting on the Russian aggression against Ukraine on February 24, the Pope condemned the Russian invasion, calling it a “cruel and senseless war of aggression.”
“I would like to go to Ukraine, but first I would like to visit Moscow. I hope that the President of Russia can give me a little space for peace,” the Pope said.
