Satellite images obtained by the Associated Press (AP) show the aftermath of an attack by Houthi militias on an oil facility in Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) yesterday.

Satellite images taken by Planet Labs PBC showed smoke rising above a fuel tank near the storage facility of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) in Abu Dhabi’s Musaffah region.

Another image, taken shortly after the attack, shows burn marks and white fire extinguisher foam spread across the floor of the warehouse.

ADNOC, a state-owned energy company, did not respond to AP questions and estimates of damage from the attack.

“We are working closely with the relevant authorities to determine the exact cause. A thorough investigation has been launched.”

The attack came after Houthi militias faced repression, heavy casualties and the Yemeni National Army, backed by the Arab Coalition, repelled the coup militias in the main provinces.

Yemeni government forces, with the help of the UAE-backed Amalika Brigades, recaptured the Shabwa region earlier this month in a blow to the Houthis’ efforts to take control of the whole of northern Yemen.

What’s the matter?

Abu Dhabi police reported yesterday that three tankers carrying oil fuel exploded in the Musaffah Industrial Zone near the storage facilities of oil firm ADNOC, and a small fire broke out at a construction site at Abu Dhabi International Airport.

Preliminary investigations showed a ‘small aircraft’ similar to armed drones (WMDs) that may have crashed in the two areas, causing explosions and fires.

Abu Dhabi police say three Indian and Pakistani citizens have been killed and six others injured after fuel tanks exploded.
