Planet with a surface temperature of 3 thousand 200 degrees discovered
Astronomers from the University of Bern, using data from the European Space Agency’s CHEOPS telescope, announced that the planet WASP-189b, one and a half times the size of Jupiter, is 322 light-years away from Earth in the constellation Libra.
It was calculated that the surface temperature of WASP-189b, which completed its orbit in less than 3 days, of HD 133112, one of the hottest stars known to have a planetary system, was 3,200 degrees.
WASP-189b, which is 20 times closer to its star than the Earth’s distance from the Sun, has always been experienced at night on one face and daytime on the other.
“Planets such as WASP-189b are referred to as ‘extremely hot Jupiters’. Such a high degree of iron melts, even turns into gas. This is one of the most interesting planets we have ever known about.” made its evaluation.
Details about the planet have been published in “Astronomy & Astrophysics” magazine.
