The demonstrations, which started yesterday evening in the capital Belgrade, to protest the new measures announced in the fight against the COVID-19 outbreak in Serbia, continued to spread to other cities today.

In order to protest against the new measures to combat the new type of coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in Serbia, protests took place last night in Belgrade, as well as in other major cities such as Nis, Kragujevac and Novi Sad.

Thousands of demonstrators gathered in front of the national parliament building in Belgrade, overcoming the police security cordon, police forces intervened with tear gas.

Supporters from the opposition wing in the country, while throwing hard objects to the police, the opposition Free People’s Movement President Sergej Trifunovic was also hit by the opposition.

In the events that were initiated in response to the COVID-19 measures but turned into anti-government protests with broad participation, the door of the radio and television building in the city of Novi Sad was broken with stones.

President Aleksandar Vucic stated at a press conference today that he will not let anyone disturb the peace and peace in the country.

Thousands of people gathered in front of the parliament yesterday evening, protesting the decision after President Vucic announced that the curfew will be imposed over the weekend in Belgrade after the country’s COVID-19 incidents rise again.

While there was a rift between the demonstrators trying to break into the building and the police, the demonstrators retreated after the police used force after the night protest.

During the protests last night, 43 police officers and 17 demonstrators were injured and 23 people were detained.
