US: Iran's threat of retaliation against Israel is very serious

“We believe that the potential threat here from Iran is still real, valid and certainly credible, and we are monitoring it as closely as we can,” White House National Security Communications Adviser John Kirby told reporters at an online meeting.

“Our focus is on having discussions with our Israeli counterparts and not just talking, but making sure they have what they need and can defend themselves,” Kirby said.

Stating that the US is “serious” about its commitment to Israel’s defence and self-defence, Kirby did not elaborate on the measures taken against a possible Iranian attack.

On 1 April, Israel launched an airstrike on the consulate building located in Iran’s embassy compound in Damascus. In the attack, a total of 7 people from the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Army, 2 of whom were in the rank of general, were killed.

Iran announced that it would quickly retaliate against the attack and held the US responsible for the incident.
