Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that they are against the deployment of nuclear weapons in space and said, “We have always been categorically against the deployment of nuclear weapons in space and we are against it now. We have repeatedly proposed not only to comply with all existing agreements in this area, but also to strengthen joint work.”
Putin made statements during a meeting with Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu in the capital Moscow.
Stating that the Russian army “successfully” took control of the city of Avdiyivka in the Donetsk region, Putin said, “This success needs to be further developed. But these steps need to be well prepared and secured with personnel, weapons, equipment and ammunition.”
Putin stated that the settlement named Krinki was also taken under control by the Russian army.
Pointing out that they did not reject negotiations on Ukraine, Putin said, “We have always been in favor of negotiations. I have already said hundreds of times that we did not interrupt the dialogue. It was the Ukrainian side that interrupted the dialogue on the direct instructions of London and Washington.”
Regarding the allegations in the US press that “Russia is planning to deploy nuclear weapons in space”, Putin said:
“Our position is clear and transparent. We have always been categorically against the deployment of nuclear weapons in space and we are against it now. We have repeatedly proposed not only to comply with all existing agreements in this area, but also to strengthen joint work.”
“They want to intimidate Senators and Congressmen to collect the funds”
Shoigu also stated that Russia does not have a project to deploy nuclear weapons in space, “They (the US) know this, but they are still making noise. They want to ensure the collection of funds not only for Ukraine, but also to strategically defeat Russia by intimidating senators and members of Congress.”
