Storm in Victoria, Australia: Thousands without power
According to the BBC, heavy rain and winds in the state have negatively affected life.
While many trees were felled due to the storm, adverse weather conditions also disrupted efforts to fight forest fires in the west of the state.
Thousands of people in the state were left without electricity due to the collapse of many transmission towers and the failure of a power station in the storm.
In a post on social media platform X, Victoria State Energy Minister Lily D’Ambrosio said this was one of the biggest blackouts in the state’s history, adding that 529,000 people were left without electricity due to physical damage to power lines.
It was also reported that the storm negatively affected transportation, while some train services in Melbourne were disrupted.
