UK awards 24 new oil and gas exploration licenses in the North Sea

The UK oil and gas regulator, the North Sea Transformation Authority (NSTA), announced the award of 24 new oil and gas licenses in the North Sea. Shell, Equinor, bp, Total and NEO are among the companies awarded licenses.

According to a statement from the NSTA, 24 new oil and gas licenses were awarded to 17 different companies, including Shell, Equinor, bp, Total and NEO.

While these licenses constitute the second leg of the 33rd oil and gas licensing round of the NSTA, 51 licenses have been provided so far under the 33rd round.

The NSTA also announced that more licenses will be issued in the coming months.

The NSTA had opened oil and gas applications for 931 blocks under the 33rd oil and gas licensing round on October 7, 2022. The agency received 115 applications from 76 different companies for these licenses.
