Last year at the Apple event, the Apple Watch’s “Double Tap” feature, which allows you to tap your fingers together twice to answer a call, was the star of the show. However, the limited use of this feature was annoying.
Preparing to unlock the potential of this “gesture” technology, Doublepoint Technologies unveiled an interesting product ahead of the ongoing CES 2024. The Helsinki-based startup demonstrates this technology with its “Wow Mouse” app for Android watches. The app not only allows you to control your smart devices with gestures, but also offers instant Bluetooth connectivity to devices such as phones, tablets and computers.
We tried Doublepoint
The Doublepoint team was kind enough to give us a demonstration at their pre-CES event. In one of the two demos, the most impressive was the smart lamp control. By rotating your wrist while wearing the smartwatch, you could adjust the brightness of the lamps. There was almost no delay between the light control and the user’s movements. You could turn the light on by pointing your finger at it and turn it off with a quick flick of the wrist.
In addition to that, one of the things Doublepoint showed was a clock that showed how much you pressed your fingers together. It had a bar that showed the level of force you applied to your fingers.
Doublepoint’s success is driven by its new and updated gesture detection algorithm, which is now fully compatible with WearOS smartwatches.
Ohto Pentikäinen, CEO of Doublepoint, says that they have designed their algorithms to seamlessly integrate with existing devices. So developers and manufacturers don’t have to start from scratch to improve user experiences.
