International Space Station turns 25

NASA celebrated the 25th anniversary of the station, whose first modules docked in 1998. The International Space Station, where more than 260 astronauts and cosmonauts from 20 countries have worked and thousands of different experiments have been carried out, will be retired at the end of 2030.

December 7, 1998 marks a quarter of a century since the first pieces of the International Space Station were assembled.

NASA celebrated the 25th anniversary of the International Space Station with a live link to astronauts in orbit.

NASA Administrator Bob Cabana, himself a former astronaut, emphasized that humanity’s goal is the Moon and Mars Missions.

Cabana stated in the live link that 3 thousand research and education studies from 108 countries have been carried out in the last 25 years. In his speech, Cabana said, “We strive to make the world a better place with our work in space.

“THE FEELING OF WEIGHTLESSNESS IS REALLY UNIQUE

Station commander Andreas Mogensen, the first Dane in space, emphasized the difficulties of life in orbit.

Station commander Mogensen said, “The feeling of weightlessness here is truly unique. It is not possible to train for it beforehand. You can get a little taste of it with parabolic flights, but living and working weightless is very different. It is not only fun but also very difficult.

OPERATING COST 140 BILLION DOLLARS

The cost of building and operating the international space station, jointly constructed by the space agencies of the United States, Russia, European countries, Japan and Canada, has exceeded 140 billion dollars.

The space station, which is 400 kilometers above the ground, travels at a speed of 27,580 kilometers per hour and makes 15 orbits around the Earth every day.

The International Space Station, which has hosted more than 260 astronauts and cosmonauts from 20 countries since 2000, is scheduled to retire at the end of 2030.

CONTROLLED DROP INTO THE PACIFIC OCEAN

According to the plan announced by NASA last year, the 445-ton space station will be unloaded and dropped in a controlled drop to a safe area in the Pacific Ocean.
