Her co-star didn't hide the truth any longer: I was always jealous of her

The calendars were showing the year 1980. A movie came to the movie theaters that was not only talked about that year but also engraved in the memory of not one but several generations. How could it not be so!

In the lead role was a young star who had starred in another highly controversial production just a few years before that movie and whose beauty was literally breathtaking. Opposite her was a handsome young man a few years older than her.

It’s been 43 years since that movie was released. In other words, almost half a century. But there is no end to the talk about that movie, nor to the behind-the-scenes stories of the stars of that movie.

A new link has been added to all this. Let’s take a look.

When we say “Blue Lagoon”, those who are in their 40s and 50s today will undoubtedly sigh deeply.

Because Blue Lagoon, which coincided with the youth of that generation, was indeed a production that left its mark on those years.

Of course, it was criticized for emphasizing sexuality too much, but at the same time, it helped to present a beautiful star to the world of cinema.

Brooke Shields, who displayed her beauty in Blue Lagoon after Pretty Baby, in which she starred as a child, was only 14 years old when she appeared in front of the camera in that movie. Across from her was Christopher Aatkins, who was only 4 years older than her.

Directed by Randal Kleiser, Blue Lagoon was based on the story of two young people who survive a shipwreck and end up on a deserted island. The two young people were having their sexual awakening on that deserted island where they were left alone.

Brooke Shields, who played one of the leading roles in that movie, is today a 58-year-old adult mother of two children. Moreover, she continues her career despite the passing years.

Her co-star in Blue Lagoon, 62-year-old Christopher Atkins, has not been as lucky as her in terms of career. Although he has acted in many productions, he has never been in front of the camera in productions that made as much noise as Brooke Shields.

He even expressed his feelings about this in the podcast Behind The Velvet Rose.

Sincerely, Atkins did not hide that she was jealous of the career of her co-star Brooke Shields in Blue Lagoon.

“I was definitely jealous of her,” Christopher Atkins, who came to the fore with his financial difficulties for a while, replied to a question. Atkins explained that he wanted to be in a quality movie that was well seen then and now.

Atkins, who is still pursuing his career, added that he has not put aside his dream of starring in a hit movie like Blue Lagoon.

“I’ve been doing this for 43 years because I consider myself an actor, it’s my job. I still want to be in a hit movie like this,” he continued.

In fact, Christopher Atkins’ dream is not only to act in a good movie but also to make his own movie. “I want to make my own movie now. I’ve always acted in other people’s movies, from small projects to big productions. I want to make my own movie now. There is a project I’m working on right now,” Atkins said.

Brooke Shields and Christopher Atkins, the stars of the unforgettable movie Blue Lagoon, made striking statements about the movie Blue Lagoon in a program they were guests on last year.

Atkins said that he had difficulty putting on his clothes when he returned to his normal life after the filming of the movie. He attributed this to the fact that he went topless throughout the movie as required by the script.

Brooke Shields and Christopher Atkins reminded each other of some funny incidents behind the camera.

Shields, who used a stunt double in the scenes of the movie in which she appeared completely naked, also explained a little “trick” that was applied during the filming. Shields said that in the scenes where she went topless, her long hair was taped over her breasts, thus preventing unfavorable situations.

Shields said the behind-the-scenes crew of Blue Lagoon added that she had a very high expectation for her and Christopher Atkins: “The production team desperately wanted us to really fall in love. But the thing is, I hadn’t kissed anyone yet.”

To which Christopher Atkins replied, “That would have been great for the movie. Because the movie was all about two young people falling in love. You have to admit that the chemistry between us was really great. There were a lot of great moments in the movie. I think it was the innocence of the movie that made it so compelling.”

The Blue Lagoon is based on the novel by Henry De Vere Stacpoole, published in 1908. Although it received some good and some bad reviews, it grossed $58.8 million globally.

Their performances in the movie marked an important turning point in the careers of both Christopher Atkins and Brooke Shields. Atkins received a Golden Globe nomination for new actor of the year for this film.

The years after Blue Lagoon were a career success for Brooke Shields. But Christopher Atkins’ life took a turn for the worse. Unable to handle the fame he gained at a young age, Atkins turned to some bad habits. He struggled for a long time to get rid of them.

While we are on the subject of The Blue Lagoon, let’s remember another “legend”. Although this production received mixed reviews, a sequel was made in 1991.

Return to the Blue Lagoon starred Milla Jovovich, the rising star of the time, and Brian Krause.

Leslie Stevens was in the director’s chair. Let us remind you that this movie also played a big role in Milla Jovovich’s attracting attention.
