A truck-sized asteroid discovered on Saturday will pass lower than communication satellites and will be visible 3,600 kilometers above Earth on Friday, NASA announced.

An asteroid the size of a delivery truck will pass by Earth in one of the closest encounters ever recorded.

Most of the asteroid will come within a tenth of the orbital distance of communication satellites.

NASA said the newly discovered asteroid will be visible Friday evening 3,600 kilometers above the southern tip of South America.

According to NASA, the asteroid has no chance of hitting Earth, but it will be a very close pass.

Scientists said most of the asteroid will burn up in the atmosphere and larger pieces will probably fall as meteorites.

The asteroid known as 2023 BU, discovered on Saturday, is believed to be between 3.5 meters and 8.5 meters.
